Krista’s Thoughts: As much as I like the chocolate and citrus blend of the other coffees, I really liked seeing a different flavor profile being used in Elder’s Fathom. The mildly bitter and earthy undertones of the walnuts were easily discernible and blended well with the taste of the apples. Due to the use of these two bitter flavors, the coffee itself has a bit of a bite, yet is easily palatable and enjoyable. Personally, I tend to drink more dark roasts than medium ones due to my love of espressos drinks, so I was a little taken aback by the level of acidity that comes with a medium roast bean. Overall, I found Elder’s Fathom to be robust in flavor yet smooth in finish. It isn’t quite enough to get me to switch over to drinking mediums roasts all of the time, but I will gladly volunteer to drink it again!
Ryan’s Thoughts: While not as mind-blowing as the previous products we have reviewed from Geek Grind Coffee Co., I do have to say this was a very pleasant roast with subtle hints of the flavors they infused. The chocolate and vanilla seem to be a staple with this brand and form a solid base from which to build as the walnut and apple are noticeable, but no one flavor overpowers the others. The best part of this brew is the sturdy upfront flavor that rolls back into a sweet, sustained after effect leaving you craving the next sip. Each drink refreshes the experience and allows for a pleasant beverage that both excites and satisfies.
