Bringing the Fantasy to Life with Pocket Compendiums by Stratagem

Tome of Recollection
Tome of Recollection from Stratagem

While delving into the depths of the world wide web, we came across a truly terrific treasure! A Brybelly brand by the name of Stratagem makes small sleeve binders capable of holding poker-sized cards which are perfect for storing and organizing player aides for your favorite tabletop RPG, taking on your journey while LARPing, holding business cards at a convention while staying in character cosplay, or simply housing your Nintendo Amiibo cards. They even come with a pack of blank cards should you want to make your own assets.

These tiny tomes come in four different forms to help fit your character and/or personal aesthetic. The Tome of Recollection (featured in this article) is a deep brown whereas the Tome of Corruption is necrotic black, the Tome of Glory is cream, and the Tome of Dread is a mysterious purple. Each of these tomes also features a different design to keep with their theme.

These tomes work perfectly for holding our most often used spells in our Dark Eye campaign!

Though they come with their own cards to help keep track of new gear, sorceries, artifacts, cantrips, or NPCs that one is traveling with, these tomes are specifically designed to be compatible with 5th Edition DnD. However, we have found that they also work for many other campaign games and have been using them for our spellcasters while playing The Dark Eye from Ulisses Spiele. With so many ideas on how these could be implemented, we have already recommended them as a regular product to a few of our local game stores.

When comparing similar products, we found that the Pocket Compendiums are well made and have a fairly agreeable price point. While others may offer things such as slip closures and twine bindings, we went with the snap closure to ensure a lasting hold. While we originally were unsure if one would be enough should our spellcasters become more powerful, we also realize that having more than one spellbook is not a bad thing!
